We recently brought in our first run of the new Surly 8-Pack and 24-Pack racks. Boy howdy are they fabulous. Knowing the blood, sweat and jeers that went into the development had me swooning for their successful arrival. So far they have been received with high praise and we couldn’t be happier.
So now we have ourselves quite the collection of rackage to offer you. I bet you have questions. Hopefully this will help steer you to the rack of your Surly infested dreams.
(What a terrible image. I know. Everybody with MS paint thinks they are an artist. I am no exception. Also I'm feeling lazy.)
What do these racks have in common?
- 10mm tubing to offer the most compatibility with a variety of panniers
- CroMoly weldment that is tough and repairable
- Tube thickness specific to strength requirements throughout each rack providing the best balance of strength, durability and weight
- 50mm-tall dead-stop on each rack platform provides an anchoring/lashing point and helps keep cargo from shifting
- powder coat finish offers better protection from abrasion and corrosion compared to wet-paint systems and it’s a more environmentally-friendly option
- Stainless steel hardware that resists corrosion and retains its stock appearance over time
- Removable stainless rack collars allow vertical fine-tuned adjustability and an opportunity to replace hardware that has been damaged or lost
- Numerous braze-ons, for attaching accessories and/or anchoring panniers, provide lots of versatility
- Wide range of adjustability for fit
- Wide cargo platform
- Awesome value $$

Just in case you missed it, none of these options are compatible with an offset frame or fork. Might we suggest you use soft packs such as those offered up by Revelate or Frost River or whomever makes the bags that tickle your pickle. It will be okay. You will still have a great ride.
We are continuing the brain dumps on improving and expanding our cargo line up. So keep in touch. We miss your shiny face when you are gone.
